The most important part of every Valentine's Day date isn't the flowers or the candies, or even the fancy dinner, although all those things help add up to a successful date. But the part that really reaches her heart comes after dinner, as in dessert. That's the icing on the cake to a great Valentine's date, and Myrtle Beach offers plenty of tasty alternatives.

Whether you order dessert at the same place you dine or pick a special spot for an after-dinner treat, you can find a long list of local bakeries, ice cream parlors and other sugar shacks to satisfy your sweetheart's sweet tooth. Although there are countless options to find dessert, Valentine's Day deserves the best. Here are our five favorite Myrtle Beach restaurants for desserts:

Collector's Cafe & Gallery: This upscale restaurant doubles as an art gallery and dedicates much of its wall space to displaying the works of local artists. Some would argue that the artistry carries over into the food, particularly desserts. Collector's in-house pastry chef prepares daily delights that keep guests coming back for seconds, or just to enjoy a cup of coffee and dessert at the end of a long day. The New York-style cheesecakes with infused fruit flavors are among the house favorites.

Croissants Bistro & Bakery: This award-winning European cafe has gained equal acclaim for its desserts. The on-site bakery serves a wide variety of goodies, from muffins and rolls to cakes and pies. But the best way to experience the tasty treats at Croissants is to sit down for dessert, including their famous Key Lime pie, Peanut Butter Cupcake and pound cakes. Be sure to take home some pastries from the bakery to snack on throughout your visit to Myrtle Beach.

Maggie Moo's Ice Cream and Treatery: Fancy restaurants and desserts may be on the menu for most couples, but some prefer something simple like a late-night stop for ice cream. This Barefoot Landing location takes ice cream to the next level with lots of toppings and mix-ins for its tasty ice cream. Special treats include chocolate-covered strawberries, homemade Oreos stuffed with ice cream, milkshakes, smoothies and sundaes. To enjoy dessert later back in the room, pick up a famous Ice Cream Pizza.

The Melting Pot: Do you do fondue? If not, you've got to give this national chain a try, not only for the uniqueness of the experience but also for the incredible desserts. Patrons can order four-course meals that they prepare in their own kettles at their tables, and even newcomers are seasoned pros by the dessert course. That's when melted chocolate sauces are used for dipping fruits, marshmallows and cake pieces. Romantic couples enjoy feeding one another the gooey treats over a dessert wine or hot coffee. Many guests dine elsewhere but stop here just for the desserts.

Sweet Frog: Some couples prefer to watch their weight even on a special date like Valentine's Day, and this national chain has lots of delicious frozen yogurt treats to choose from without wrecking your diet. Offering a variety of flavors and a long list of toppings, guests can make their own creations to their own specifications. Pile it high or low and pay by the weight of your cup or cone and enjoy. There are four locations on the Grand Strand but the downtown store gives visitors the chance to sit outside on the oceanfront or take a romantic stroll down the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.

After you and your date have had your dessert, cap off the date back at the resort with a coffee or mixed drink at The Strand Bar on the premises. It's the perfect way to close the perfect Valentine's date on the Grand Strand.
