Plan the Perfect Couple’s Getaway in Myrtle Beach

Whether they’ve been together for decades or are still getting to know one another, a shared getaway can be a great way for a couple to escape the everyday routine, strengthen their bond and make some special memories together. And especially for those with a mutual affinity for the beach and the coastal environment that accompanies it, it’s hard to beat the Grand Strand when it comes to choosing a destination filled with fun attractions and activity options for visitors of all ages and interests.

So, are you and your special someone in need of a couple’s getaway sometime soon? Consider this itinerary — achievable over a single long weekend — for an unforgettable trip to the Myrtle Beach area together:

Day 1:

After arriving on the Grand Strand, start your stay by checking into your hotel room — ideally at The Strand on the Myrtle Beach oceanfront. Take some time to look around the property and check out the long list of amenities you can enjoy on-site, including an oceanfront pool deck, a range of dining options and extras like a fitness center with ocean views. (Speaking of ocean views, since it’s right out the back door, you may even want to take a short stroll along the beach to get a feel for the prime location of your new home for the weekend.)

Next, spend the afternoon on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. Repeatedly ranked among the nation’s best, this 1.2-mile wooden boardwalk sits right on the oceanfront in the heart of Myrtle Beach, and those who take the scenic stroll will be treated to a great selection of places to play, shop, and have a drink and/or a snack along the way — all of which we highly recommend you do (if you’re so inclined).

For dinner, put on your evening wear and head to New York Prime. At this New York-style steakhouse, you can each choose your favorites from a selection of mouthwatering USDA Prime-only steaks, and/or opt for any appetizer, seafood dish, salad or side that strikes your fancy. (Whatever you choose, it’s sure to be tasty.) From there, head for Tin Roof to catch a live performance — the bar/restaurant/entertainment venue boasts the tagline “A Live Music Joint” and brings local, regional and national acts to its main stage nightly.

Day 2:

For the second day of your couple’s escape, head south to Murrells Inlet and spend the morning taking in the array of beauty on display at Brookgreen Gardens. This attraction, which offers visitors more than 9,000 acres of pristine nature to explore, is an official National Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its main draw is its expansive sculpture gardens featuring over 2,000 artworks from 400-plus artists — including the most comprehensive collection of American figurative sculpture in the United States. Other attractions on the property include nature trails, a butterfly garden, historic rice plantations and the Lowcountry Zoo.

Next, head to the nearby Murrells Inlet MarshWalk to enjoy the afternoon together. Here, you’ll find a half-mile wooden boardwalk that offers beautiful views of the adjacent natural saltwater estuary. It’s also a great place to grab lunch at one of the eight on-site restaurants, most specializing in delicious, fresh-caught seafood.(The attraction is also known for presenting regular on-site entertainment, including live musical performances.)

After heading back to The Strand for a little oceanfront rest and relaxation, get ready to head out for dinner at Hook & Barrel. With a focus on using fresh, flavorful ingredients and an eye toward environmental sustainability, this popular restaurant serves up fresh-caught seafood dishes such as Smoked Shrimp & Grits, Pecan-Crusted Carolina Trout and Pan-Seared Scallops, as well as land-derived meats like Grilled Filet Mignon, Roasted Chicken Breast and Braised Beef Shortribs. To put the cherry on top of your night, bring home dessert and enjoy it on your oceanfront balcony.

Day 3:

On your final day away, you’ll still have time to squeeze in a few more coastal treats before you pack up and head back home. Start the day with a cup of morning coffee on your room’s oceanfront balcony while you take in sweeping views of the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean. And once the juices are flowing, head down to the backyard beach for a quick morning stroll together. (You might want to even look for a seashell or two from the shoreline to take home as a Grand Strand souvenir.)

Before you leave town, head to Garden City for brunch at the Gulfstream Cafe. This is a perfect place to finalize your weekend with a meal of fresh-caught seafood and delicious Southern dishes like Smoked Salmon, Fried Cod, Low Country Shrimp Potato Salad, Frittata, Cheese Grits and an array of additional tasty offerings from the brunch menu — all while taking in picturesque waterfront views from the eatery’s rooftop deck.
