This year, instead of dreaming of a white Christmas, you should consider a holiday trip to the white-sand beaches of the Grand Strand. You can ditch the parka for a few days and put the ice scraper away for a while as you enjoy quality family time in one of the most beautiful and relaxing places in the country. And The Strand Resort can provide you with the perfect home for the holidays. No place embodies the spirit of the South Carolina coast better than this boutique resort ripe with lavish accommodations and perks to enjoy during your stay.

A large part of what makes the holidays so special are all the traditions. Perhaps your family has a few you get excited for every year, like reserving a day for decorating the house or decorating cookies as you listen to some classic Christmas tunes. During December, The Strand has a fun and festive new tradition for your family to take part in – it’s called the Holiday Hunt. Here’s how to play:

Start off the Holiday Hunt by writing a merry message on the beach. You can write something like “Season’s Greetings” or “Smith Family Christmas ’17.” Let your imagination run wild, just be sure to make your message big enough that Santa could read it from high up in the sky if he leaned over the side of his sleigh. You know the saying, “Do it for the Gram”? Well, that applies to the Holiday Hunt. So, take a picture of your message in the sand and post it on Instagram and Facebook. Tag @thestrandmb, and use the hashtag #TheStrandHolidayHunt in your caption.

Next on the list for the Holiday Hunt is a photo with Santa. Before gearing up for his journey around the world, he’ll be enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the Myrtle Beach area. While you stay at The Strand Resort, you’ll have a few photo ops. Jolly Old Saint Nick will be making several appearances at Santa’s Village at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex through December 31st, as well as at a number of other events and venues on the Grand Strand.

During the holidays, the Grand Strand transforms into a winter wonderland with lots of decorations. Visit one of the area’s winter festivals or displays and snap a photo with your favorite holiday lights. If you hurry, you can catch the final days of the special Nights of a Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens. Running through December 17th, this event features more than 5,000 hand-lit candles and support from strands of twinkling lights that illuminate the greenery and sculptures. Or, you could drive through the dazzling Great Christmas Light Show in North Myrtle Beach. This experience features over 500 magical light displays, some up to 55 feet tall! This year, there is also a section of lights synchronized with holiday music. You can see it all through December 31st.

While you’re around all the Christmas lights, chances are there is going to be a magnificent Christmas tree nearby. Go up to the tree, pick out an ornament that catches your eye, and take a photo of it. Be careful not to knock it off its perch – just get close enough to get the perfect pic for the Holiday Hunt.

The last photo you need to complete the Holiday Hunt is the most special. We want to encourage you to take a family photo that you can use for your holiday greeting card. You could gather on the beach just before sunset, or pose in front of a memorable Grand Strand landmark. And years from now, you’ll look at this photo and remember all the wonderful times you had in the Myrtle Beach area. Just don’t forget to tag @thestrandmb and use the hashtag #TheStrandHolidayHunt in your caption.

When you stay at The Strand, you can expect perks like comfy beds, delicious dining options and entertainment. But what sets this resort apart from others in Myrtle Beach is the all-around experience. We invite you to share the experience with your family this holiday season and share your memories in the Holiday Hunt.
