This may be your last Myrtle Beach vacation before winter, so you want to soak up every precious second. The best way to make it last is to capture the experience in pictures with some scenic family photos.

Of course, the beach is the obvious choice. The Grand Strand's picturesque white-sand shores, blue-green waters and sea oats-filled dunes provide the perfect backdrop for family and couples photos. The popular group shots where the women wear white dresses and the men don white shirts and khakis, come out so pretty that people will think they came with the frame, so maybe you want to try something a little more original this fall. That's why we're offering these five hot spots for taking cool family photos in Myrtle Beach:

Brookgreen Gardens: Located about 15 miles south of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, this botanical sculpture gardens feature more than 9,000 acres of Lowcountry scenery and hundreds of works of art and nature. Many flowers are in bloom in the autumn and create a colorful canvas for photos, and the sprawling live oak trees are ideal for background and shaded soft light. But some of the best landscapes aren't in the garden but out on the property, which was once a thriving rice plantation. Tidal creeks, salt marshes, maritime forests and other wetlands and woodlands allow you to take unique pictures while also enjoying a day in nature.

Intracoastal Waterway: The Atlantic Ocean may be the most popular local body of water for photos, but the Intracoastal Waterway is the Grand Strand's best-kept secret for shutterbugs. For starters, the late afternoons present a brilliant view of sunset you don't get on the beach, and the low-lying sun sends a sea of colors streaking across the western sky that will bring your family photo to life. Easy access points include the Grande Dunes Marina in Myrtle Beach, Dock Holiday's in North Myrtle Beach, and Wacca Wache Marina in Socastee. Charter a boat or board the Barefoot Princess at Barefoot Landing for a better view of the Waterway.

Historic Conway: Located just 12 miles inland of Myrtle Beach, this historic riverfront city is filled with Southern charm and natural beauty. The Riverwalk is a wooden walkway on the banks of the Waccamaw River where pictures really pop, while the older buildings, bridges and train tracks in the downtown district add some character to your family photo album. The old Peanut Warehouse, the Horry County Courthouse, and Lake Busby are also popular backdrops.

Landmarks: Make sure people know where you took your family photos by posing in front of some of the city's most recognizable places. The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is a great place to start since it offers easy access to landmarks like Second Avenue Pier, Family Kingdom, and the multi-colored Myrtle Beach SkyWheel, which lights up at night and gives off beautiful patterns of neon. Barefoot Landing, Broadway at the Beach, and Market Common are also good places to find the best setting.

Parks: Myrtle Beach is sprinkled with small parks that are great for taking photos. Check out Springs Park on Ocean Boulevard and 46th Avenue North, Chapin Park at Kings Highway and 16th Avenue North, and the Withers Swash Boardwalk near 17th Avenue South. For a larger park setting, Myrtle Beach State Park and Huntington Beach State Park offer lovely Lowcountry settings, and Vereen Gardens in North Myrtle Beach has scenic views of Cherry Grove Inlet. While you are on the North Strand, the new North Myrtle Beach Sports and Recreation Park boasts a 50-acre lake surrounded by wooded trails with enough room to find the right location.

Rather than making a special trip for family photos, many guests at The Strand decide to take pictures on the premises. Pose for shots on our spacious oceanfront lawn overlooking the waves and the beach for a photo that will also remind you of your family's wonderful stay at The Strand.
