A is for Attractions, and lots of them. From amusement rides and water slides for the adventurous types to golf and theaters for those seeking safer thrills, Myrtle Beach has it all. B is for Broadway at the Beach, the most happening spot for shopping, restaurants, attractions and nightlife. Free concerts and fireworks shows are among the many reasons to visit Broadway. C is for Calabash-style seafood that has made the area famous. This lightly battered and deep-fried form of preparing local shrimp, fish and oysters is the popular fare at the many seafood buffets. D is for Dancing, a popular pastime for locals and visitors. In fact, South Carolina's state dance, the shag, was founded in the clubs of North Myrtle Beach in the 1960s, and they're still shagging today. E is for Events, and the Grand Strand knows how to throw a party. Check out Beach Boogie & BBQ, the Blue Crab Festival, Hot Summer Nights, Music on Main and Taste of the Town, just to name a few. F is for Family Kingdom, the only oceanfront amusement and waterpark in Myrtle Beach. Experience the thrill of the rides and the chills of the water slides all in the heart of the downtown district. G is for Golf and the more than 100 courses on the Grand Strand. Play the lovely ocean courses or face the challenge of championship layouts built amid the wetlands and woodlands of the Lowcountry. H is for Huntington Beach State Park, which along with the adjoining Brookgreen Gardens, are two of the prettiest places on the planet. Art and nature come together on this scenic stretch of coast. I is for Inlet, as in Murrells Inlet, the self-proclaimed “Seafood Capital of South Carolina.” You'll see why after taking a stroll along the Marsh Walk and tasting fresh seafood at every stop. J is for Jet Ski, a preferred mode of transportation for local water sports enthusiasts. These aquatic motorcycles can take you on a spin from the ocean waves to the Lowcountry backwaters. K is for Kids, the ones Myrtle Beach caters to the most. From the rides, roller coasters, water parks, go-cart tracks and laser tag, Myrtle Beach is a paradise for the little ones. L is for Landing, as in Barefoot Landing, the most popular spot in North Myrtle Beach for shopping, dining and entertainment. Catch a concert at the House of Blues or a show at the Alabama Theatre. M is for Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, the 1.2-mile wooden walkway that features the scenic Atlantic Ocean on one side and Myrtle Beach's best attractions, dining and shopping on the other. N is for Nightlife. Although Myrtle Beach is best known for fun in the sun, the real party gets started when the sun goes down at Celebrity Square, Market Common, the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and more. O is for the ocean, the main reason people come to Myrtle Beach. You can swim in, parasail over it, scuba dive under it, jet-ski on top of it, go fishing in it, and lay on the beach next to it. P is for Putt-Putt Golf, which is almost as popular as real golf on the Grand Strand. With more than 50 courses to choose from, Myrtle Beach is home to the Masters and US Open of Prominigolf. Q is for Quality Accommodations, and Visitors have lots to choose from in Myrtle Beach. Stay in an oceanfront room overlooking the beach, a multi-room resort suite for a family vacation or a golf villa just steps from the tee box. R is for Restaurants, and there's a lot more than just seafood. With more than 1,700 restaurants on the Grand Strand, there's a wide selection of steakhouses, international fare and Lowcountry cuisine to choose from. S is for Shopping, the favorite indoor sport of some visitors. In addition to the major complexes at Barefoot Landing, Barefoot Landing and Market Common, there are several malls and shopping centers to get your retail fix. T is for Theaters, some of the best this side of the real Broadway. From country music at the Carolina Opry to award-winning shows at The Palace, Myrtle Beach is the best seat in the South for live theater. U is for the Unusual, like many of the top attractions in town. From the upside-down world of Wonder Works at Broadway the Beach to the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Odd-itorium downtown, Myrtle Beach can be down-right strange. V is for Vacation, that magical time of your life when you can do whatever you want. Myrtle Beach has everything you need to have a great time, from comfortable places to stay to fun places to play. W is for the Waterway, the oft-forgotten body of water on the Grand Strand. This river parallels the coast from Little River to Georgetown and offers excellent fishing, sailing and recreational activities. X is for Xtreme Sports, the kind that can make a magical, memorable moment on your vacation. Soar through the trees on a zipline at Go Ape Treetop Adventures, blast off in the water at Jet Pack Adventures or go deep-sea fishing – if you dare. Y is for Yogurt, the frozen, sweet variety, and Myrtle Beach has more than ice cream and frozen yogurt parlors than you can shake a spoon at – Ben & Jerry's, Kirk's, Mad Myrtle's, TCBY, Sweet Frog, Froyoz – all with dozens of toppings and sauces. Z is for Zoos, and the Grand Strand has a few. Waccatee Zoo is the largest with the most animals, while Brookgreen Gardens features native species like gators, otters and birds of prey.
