Looking for a fun and inexpensive activity in Myrtle Beach that the entire family will enjoy? Check out the Children’s Museum of South Carolina! On the third Friday of each month, they host a Family Fun Night that you definitely won’t want to miss. And, with the museum located less than a mile away from (and within easy walking distance of) The Strand Resort, you’ll find a few different dining options located along the way if you decide you want to grab dinner either before or after your visit.

The fun begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. and ends around 7:30 p.m. The best part is, there is even a discounted entrance fee for Family Fun Night. It only costs $3 for non-county residents — very inexpensive for a night full of exploration and learning.

From the second you walk through the museum’s front doors, you and your children will be in for a stimulating treat. The first exhibit you’ll see is called Discover South Carolina, and it teaches the viewer about our state’s native plants and animals. But this is just the beginning of an educational and hands-on learning experience. You might even learn a thing or two right along with your children. Some of the other exhibits found in the museum include the USS Kids-A-Float, which teaches kids the names of the different parts of a boat and educates them about the pirates of the Carolinas; the Express Yourself Art Center, where kids can unleash their creativity and discover their inner artist; and the Kidz Medical Center, where kids can learn about the parts of the body while taking on the role of a medical provider. This is not everything that the children’s museum has to offer — other topics covered include fossils, finance, construction and more. Of course, should you need guidance or get stumped by one of the little ones’ queries, the museum’s friendly staff is ready to answer your questions or assist you with any of the exhibits.

If you didn’t get a chance to eat at our boutique oceanfront resort before heading out, no worries! You have plenty of options available right on your way to your night of fun, or while heading back for a dip in the pool. Some of the kid-friendly dining options en route to or from the children’s museum include Magnolia’s at 26th, Ultimate California Pizza and Fuddruckers. Magnolia’s at 26th offers a wide variety of local favorites, including shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, various soups and salads, burgers, sandwiches, steaks, seafood and dessert.
