There's no question about where to find some of the best seafood on the Grand Strand — the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk. Located in the self-proclaimed “Seafood Capital of South Carolina,” the MarshWalk is a wooden walkway that runs along the Murrells Inlet waterfront and leads to a dozen seafood restaurants and bars offering awesome views of fishing boats returning from a day at sea.

While the secret is out about the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk being a hot spot for fresh seafood, many don't realize that it's also one of best places around to catch live music. During the summer months, the MarshWalk bars and restaurants join forces to offer excellent concerts on both indoor and outdoor stages overlooking the inlet. Billed as the place “where the fun, the view and the music are always free,” there’s never a cover charge at these local dives. Here's the MarshWalk's musical lineup for May:

Bovine’s/Wahoo’s: Thanks to Bovine’s, there is one steak house amid the MarshWalk’s sea of seafood places — including the adjoining Wahoo’s — which makes this a great spot to get for those who love surf and turf. But Bovine’s is also a hot spot for music, especially on Thursday nights on the outdoor stage. Crabby Thursday features a top local act or artist taking the stage at 7 p.m. Wahoo's also has live music five nights a week from Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Bubba's Love Shak/Capt. Dave's Dockside Restaurant: This sister bar/restaurant features live music on the waterfront patio and excellent frozen drinks from Bubba’s. Although the lineup has not yet been set for May, patrons can always expect Bubba's to be hopping with live music and lively crowds. Dave's Dockside also has occasional indoor music.

Creek Ratz: This seafood shack/raw bar is perfect for chilling out with hot seafood and cold beer. Sunday afternoons are the big draw for this locally owned and operated restaurant and bar, with live music taking the stage at 5 p.m. Listen to the sounds of beach music at 5 p.m. on Sundays with Sea Cruz (May 1, 8, 15 and 29). On Sunday, May 22, the Embers featuring Craig Woolard will play the main stage.

Dead Dog Saloon: This local institution burned to the ground a few years ago, but it was rebuilt bigger and better than before. The Dead Dog still serves the same great surf and turf selections, but the music venue and outdoor porch are more spacious and better designed for a concert setting. Patrons can kick back in a lawn chair or a hammock and hear live music daily at 7 p.m., with occasional 1 p.m. matinees. The monthly schedule includes Splash (May 1 and 7), the Matt Parker Duo (May 2 and 19), Sidewalk Saints (May 3 and 23), The Paul Grimshaw Band (May 4, 11, 18 and 25), Perlino (May 5), Who Shot JR? (May 6), Grocery Store Gentlemen (May 8, 21 and 26), Shaun Brown (May 9), David Gilease (May 10), NTranze (May 13), The Mullets (May 14), The Winchesters (May 15 and 20), Folk Em (May 16), Eastbound (May 17), Backfire (May 19), Painted Man (May 20), Band on Fire (May 21), the Josh Brannon Band (May 22), Alex Austin (May 24), the Kenny George Band (May 28), Satisfaction (May 29 and 30), and Cornbread (May 31).

Drunken Jack's: This establishment serves great seafood and hosts excellent entertainment on the patio deck overlooking the inlet and Drunken Jack's Island. Justin Mychals kicks off the month of May with a show at 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 1. More shows are in the works for May, so stay tuned for more details at www.marshwalk.com.
