With mild temperatures and steady sunshine, Myrtle Beach makes a great wintertime retreat if you’re looking to escape the cold. While staying at the oceanfront Strand Resort, you can go for a leisurely walk along the beach, treat yourself to some retail and restaurant therapy along the Boardwalk, or play a few sets of oceanfront sand volleyball.

That’s right – Myrtle Beach recently added three new oceanfront volleyball courts between 8th and 9th Avenues North. This is just a short stroll from our boutique resort! Beach volleyball has been a growing interest to locals and tourists for ages, now. Luckily, within the past few years a handful of courts were placed on part of the lot where the Pavilion used to reside. Since those courts gained so much attention and use for various events, such as the Salt Games and volleyball tournaments, the city decided to add three more to keep up with demand. Whether you’re a volleyball pro, or just want to bump the ball around with some family and friends, these additional beach volleyball courts are perfect for you. Not to mention, it won’t cost you anything for this fun and memorable activity.

With highs in the low 80s and the occasional chilly breeze, you can probably get away with a T-shirt and a sweatshirt on hand, just in case. One of the best aspects of the location of these courts is that there is plenty to do around them as well. So after a few matches, if you decide you need to take a break for a cool beverage or a bite to eat, you are surrounded by plenty of options. The courts are located right on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, giving you prime access to some of the top attractions in town. Not to mention, you can also head straight down to the sandy coastline to unwind after a match.

A slew of dining options are in sight of the courts, including Ocean Front Bar & Grill, Dirty Don’s Oyster Bar, and the Chemist. Each restaurant offers a unique menu to satisfy every kind of craving. After your meal, you can play a few more sets or head back to the Strand for a dip in the pool, or maybe even a nap to recharge. At the Ocean Front Bar & Grill you will find an array of options on their menu, including a variety of appetizers, beverages, chicken dishes, seafood, burgers, sandwiches and salads. Right down the Boardwalk from the bar and grill, you will find Dirty Don’s Oyster Bar, a Key West-style spot offering everything from fresh oysters and hot wings, to burgers and grilled steaks. If you’ve got a really ambitious appetite, we recommend you try the famous ‘Dirty Don’s Dunkin’ Pot’ filled with shellfish, corn on the cob, sausages and garlic bread on the side. For another unique dining experience, head straight up 9th Avenue to the fairly new Chemist for some craft cocktails and modern cuisine. This one-of-a-kind restaurant delivers extraordinary flavors with menu items like the Diver Scallops, Sriracha Chicken, Professor’s Punch, and the Molecular Mule.

After a long, but exciting day spent around the famous Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, you can head back to the Strand Resort where your comfy bed will be calling your name. So whether you decide to enjoy the sunrise down at the courts, or an afternoon filled with various attractions our friendly staff here at the oceanfront boutique resort can’t wait for you to arrive.
